Bruni's Retention Extends Duty Through Viet Nam

Six Hurt In New Trier Marshall High School Brawl

In Evanston at McGaw Hall after the New Trier versus Marshall high school supersectional, a melee injured six people including two police officers and four Marshall High students. more than 200 students fought on the floor and outside. New Trier won 78 to 0, prompting ongoing arrests as fights spread.

Monroe City Council approves annexation and sees board expansion

The Monroe City Council last night moved to annex land along the south edge of Monroe near Highway 69. It authorized fluoridation equipment purchase for 1390 dollars and discussed increasing the Board of Public Works from four to five members to alleviate tied votes amid rising workload. A public hearing on the annexation is scheduled for April 6 with a spring election on April 5.

Rev Lowell Mays Receives Brodhead Distinguished Service Award

Rev Lowell Mays pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church Brodhead named recipient of a Distin guished Service Award by the Brodhead Jaycees. He has taught at Edgewood College Madison was Lutheran Observer at the Vatican II opening and serves in several interfaith and Lutheran groups. Evans Named Monroe Assessor After City Council Vote

Orville R. Evans prominent local public servant began duties as Monroe assessor after a 6-2 council vote. Evans, former assessor 1954-57, former alderman and mayor, owns Evans Letter Shop and serves on the County Board of Supervisors. He represents Sixth Ward, directs the Monroe Chamber, and may join Green County Historical Society as museum plans move forward.

Taxpayer Service Available Mondays at Green County Courthouse

The Wisconsin Department of Taxation will offer taxpayer assistance every Monday from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Room 11, Green County Courthouse, Monroe. Nurses Refresher Course Opens March At Monroe

Beginning March 21 a six week refresher course for inactive nurses in Monroe and area starts at St. Clare Hospital Monroe with classes Mondays and Thursdays from 3 30 am to 3 30 pm. The University of Wisconsin Extension Division coordinates enrollment and training aimed at returning nurses to practice to address a national shortage.

Medicare enrollment drive at Monroe post office

The Social Security Administration urges 3.1 million seniors to enroll before the March 31 deadline. President Johnson proclaims National Medicare Enrollment Month and directs agencies to assist. About 2.5 million forms were distributed to 34 000 post offices with more available. 16 of 19.1 million citizens aged 65 or over were contacted, and less than a million declined coverage.

Missile Explosion Probe Persists at White Sands Range

The investigation continued into the explosion of a sprint missile at White Sands Missile Range New Mexico. An Army spokesman said the test missile failed to respond to a firing signal and exploded Tuesday with no injuries reported.
