Troy High drops flexible modular scheduling plan

Troy High School in Troy Michigan faces plummeting national test scores and rising absenteeism and has moved to drop the flexible modular scheduling program. Principal Clyde Peterson presented the plan to the school board noting it failed to boost achievement and citing higher absenteeism than nearby schools. The program allowed up to 40 percent unscheduled time for study or other activities amid funding and facility concerns. Rex B Smith said cutbacks worsened implementation and a formal study will probe reasons for the failure. Madison General Telephone marked its 1968 50th anniversary with $21 million in new facilities and over 20 000 installations as expansion continued.
