Juda Students Earn A Ratings in Subdistrict Forensics

Juda High School sent ten students to the sub district forensics contest in Orfordville, with 14 competitors overall. Winners included Madeline Bosben, Robette Preston, Marcia Wyss, Lee Kels, Pat Kaster, Kay O Neil, Russell Keen, Vicki Beckman, Royletta Severson, and Dave Beutel across categories such as non original declamation, interpretive reading, original oratory, and extemporaneous speech. The school’s forensics coach is Mrs. Louis Lehnherr.

Susan May Heins Injured After Auto Collision

Susan May Heins, 14, of Browntown Route 1, suffered back contusions after being struck by a car in the 1500 block of 12th Street while crossing an intersection. She was admitted to St. Clare Hospital at 8:45 p.m. in good condition. Driver Gerald Byron Wilcox, 55, of Malvern, Iowa, stated he did not see her, per Monroe police.

Girl Scout Songfest Draws 500 Scouts Tomorrow

More than 500 Girl Scouts from Monroe and Monticello will attend a 2:30 p.m. Songfest at the Junior High School Auditorium marking Girl Scout Week. Twenty three troops join songs from several countries and a World Friendship Fund collection mid program.

Fire destroys Sparta area farm home. family escapes

A blaze swept the Jerry Lueck farm home about six miles southwest of Sparta, but all family members escaped unharmed as the house burned early today. Neighbors aided efforts and fire crews battled the flames, with no reported injuries.
