Rural home area near Natchitoches ravaged by gas explosion
A massive underground gas pipeline blast near Natchitoches Louisiana leveled five homes and scorched a ten acre area. 17 people were killed including nine children, with fourteen from two families. Tennessee Gas Transmission Co officials aided survivors and planned funerals while authorities assessed damages above 1 million dollars.

Regents Approve New UW Centers in Rock and Waukesha
Regents authorize two new University of Wisconsin centers in Rock and Waukesha counties to be built in Janesville and Waukesha with completion expected in 1966. Oscar G. Mayer, 76, longtime chairman of Oscar Mayer and Co. Chicago meat packing firm, died of a heart attack at his Evanston home. Mayer led the firm since 1955 following his father Oscar F. Mayer’s death and had been with the business since 1909 after Harvard. The company operates a large plant in Madison, Wisconsin.
