Window Displays Mark 4-H Week in County
Four hundred fifty members from twenty eight 4-H clubs kick off National 4-H Club Week with window displays across the county. An officers training school will be held at the county Normal school in Monroe next Saturday afternoon, led by J Mitchell Mackey from the state 4-H office. Rhyner, New Glarus, Dies at 67 in St Clare Hospital
John S. Rhyner 67 of New Glarus died at 2 30 am in St Clare hospital after three weeks as a patient. He was born Aug 9 1888 in New Glarus Township to John A and Anna Geiger Rhyner. Survived by his wife Barbara Stuessy four children two daughters in law a son in Phoenix and one in Brodhead six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Burial at Swiss Evangelical and Reformed church cemetery after service Monday at 2 pm. Arrangements Zentner funeral home New Glarus.

Frank L Hoffman 69 longtime Kiwanis worker and dry cleaning operator dies after a seven year illness in his Monroe apartment. He helped launch the first Kiwanis Youth Cabin and raised funds through a horse show. He led Kiwanis as president in 1942 and organized tours for the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. Born June 26 1885 in Polo Illinois, he moved to Monroe in 1920 to run Hoffman Dry Cleaners.

City treasurer Helen L. Gempeler released March 1 figures showing total delinquent taxes in Monroe at 17001 21. Of 64607216 to be collected 57409863 was paid in cash through February 28 with 5497232 postponed to July 31. Delinquent totals include real estate 11694 58 personal property 2426 64 special assessments 1517 53 sewer charges 1362 46. A farm letter was sent to all delinquent taxpayers and March 12 is the county settlement date.
