President Eisenhower slept last night in his new Gettysburg farm home marking his first overnight stay there. The 189 acre property near town drew community pride with local news noting no president slept on their own land before. Construction is ongoing and interior finishing touches remain. The president accompanied by contractor Charles H. Tompkins of Washington checked progress and spent the night.

Nicholas Lelle 63 died yesterday after a heart attack while working in the yard of Our Savior's Church in South Wayne. Born January 13 1892 in Hackensack New Jersey he farmed here with his wife Matilda Krupke since 1915 and leaves two daughters two sons a brother two sisters and six grandchildren. Services Sunday at 2 pm at Our Savior's Church with burial in Blaisdell Cemetery.

Herbert R. West of Wisconsin Power and Light Co. received the Edison Electric Institute medal for saving a fellow employe after a near fatal electric shock in Monroe. Ceremonies at the utility’s meeting rooms featured Voyta Wrabetz presenting the award with a lapel miniature and citation. West helped revive Harold J. Sanders while other workers, including Robert Van Wagenen and Donald Bloom, assisted in lowering and resuscitating the injured man.

Two Chicago men, Michael Messina and Mike Amerino, were captured near Waukegan after an $18,000 Milwaukee Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. payroll robbery.
