Bids for Monroe's new National Guard Armory were opened in Madison at 10 a.m. and are under review. Col. Marvin P. Wang, state procurement officer, will fly to Washington for final bid confirmation and plan approval.
Three Wisconsin members of Congress, Senators William Proxmire and Gaylord Nelson and Rep. Robert Kastenmeier, were named on the Nixon administration Enemies List. John Dean testified he authored a plan to pressure listed opponents, including withholding federal funds and pursuing prosecutions.
Browntown hosts the 1973 June Dairy Day with a Dairy Show, parade, new Green County Dairy Queen and princess, recipe contest, and Moon-tail Hour reception. Attendance is expected around 350 for the Queen Banquet at Monroe High School Gymnasium with Dr. Charles DeNure as speaker.
Terri Elmer 16 daughter of Paul and Mrs Elmer Rt 1 Brooklyn was crowned Brooklyn Dairy Queen June 26 at Stubb's Hide-Away. She farms and shows horses and cattle including a registered Quarterhorse and at the Central National Holstein Show in Madison. She is a State FFA delegate and active in church and band. Runners up are Kriss Tollefson and Jill Ruppert.
The Monroe Evening Times earned a Meritorious Service Award from the Wisconsin Army National Guard for meritorious support. Helen E. Zimmerli, veteran Evening Times reporter, received the Guardsman Award in person. The presentation occurred at a Wednesday dinner by the Monroe Guard unit NCO Club, attended by 34 members.
