Green County Guard back from summer encampment at Camp McCoy
The 1158th Transportation unit of Green County's National Guard wraps two weeks at Camp McCoy with excellent daily records and plans to return to Monroe on Saturday. Weather was mild, rains minimal, corn crops strong, and mosquitoes few. The unit operated with 12 to 14 hour days and every vehicle active daily. Mess halls and kitchens earned praise for efficiency. Three former Fort Lewis members still active with the unit include Otto Erzinger Don Neuenschwander and Calvin Strahm. Other staff hold key roles in Madison and Milwaukee. Cont page 8

Agenda set for Dairy Day 73 in Green County
The 1973 Dairy Day at Browntown features crowning a Dairy Queen and Princess and announcing the Dairy Recipe winner. Events include a Dairy Show at 9:30, a 1:30 parade, 9 to noon tours of the Milk Specialties Plant, a 9:30 a.m. Recipe Center, six semi finalists at 11 to 12:30, a Children’s Parade assemble 12:30 to 1, 80 parade units, Alpine Valley Sweet Adelines at Shelter House, and honors for Henry Ruppert and his wife as the oldest active dairy couple. An ice cream cone eating contest concludes with naming the Green recipient.

Tregoning to be released after eight months in hospital
Jeanne Tregoning, wife of Rep. Joseph Tregoning, ends eight and a half months of hospitalization at St. Mary's Madison and will return home in Shullsburg with weekly therapy. She suffered critical injuries from a October auto accident near Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple attended June Daily Month events, including Monroe's Queen’s Banquet.
