Albany Soldier Dies of Vietnam Wound
Pfc Kris Blumer, 19, of Albany dies in Vietnam after being wounded by a mine on May 15. His death was announced to his mother Virginia Blumer on June 25. He had been hospitalized with serious injuries including thorax and abdominal damage and later pneumonia before his condition worsened. He graduated Albany High in 1968 and enlisted that June, leaving for Vietnam in November. Surviving family includes his mother, two brothers Karl and Kim, four sisters, and his grandmother. Funeral arrangements are handled by Sharer Funeral Home of Albany.

Ecumenical Service at Bandshell Wednesday in Monroe
The Bandshell at Twining Park hosts an ecumenical Service of Worship on Wednesday July 2 at 7 45 p m. The event unites churches from Monroe including St Victor s Roman Catholic St John s United Church of Christ Grace Lutheran and First and Immanuel United Methodist. The Folk provide music with Dr Robert Smith leading singing and Maynard Heins on instruments. Three laymen Jack Fernan Roger Stauffacher Alvin Zuhlke will give brief messages along with Roger Burroughs Robert Wolfe Rev Harold Crume and Rev Melvin Roehrdanz. The joint worship committee of the Methodist Churches organized the service for all locals near and far. Everyone is invited.
