Monroe to Hear One Way Traffic Plan July Fifth
City Council gave first reading to an ordinance extending the one way traffic plan in Monroe by adding 16th and 17th avenues from 6th to 10th streets with 16th moving south and 17th north. Paul J. Weirich 79 longtime telephone executive died in Chicago yesterday. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Shriner-Neushwan der funeral home with Rev. James L. Neighbours officiating. Graveside rites by the Knights of Pythias at Greenwood. He helped found the Wisconsin Telephone Association and chaired local independent firms. He left a daughter Mrs. A. E. Northrup and three nieces, with other relatives. Continuous service to rural and urban phone networks made him a prominent figure in Wisconsin.

Monroe’s National Guard unit from Co. K of Wisconsin’s 32nd Division is due to arrive about 1 p.m. Sunday to end a two week summer encampment at Camp McCoy. An advance detail leaves Friday and returns Saturday, with the full company departing Camp McCoy again Sunday morning. Over the weekend the unit joined mock warfare drills and more than 100 local residents visited the camp.
