State Motorists Go Faster During 1955 Speed Study
Wisconsin drivers averaged 55.9 mph on rural state trunk roads with out of state motorists at 59.3 mph and heavy trucks at 46.7 mph. The State Highway Commission report notes speeds rose since 1942 with a 65 mph daytime limit for cars and 6,260 vehicles observed across 15 locations.

Steven Krupke four year old son of Delbert and Mrs Krupke of 1221 29th avenue was in good condition at St. Clare hospital after being struck by a car driven by Martha Edna Schultz Route 1 at about 5 p m The collision occurred in the 2800 block of 13th street and left a broken left arm and cuts. The driver stated the child did not see the vehicle. In a second incident Alois Moest Jr Orangeville was involved in a sideswipe with a city truck in the 2500 block of 13th street causing damage to the truck and its rear bumper plus panel at about 10 15 p m.

Lightning Fatality in Wilmington Park
A 10 year old boy, Lawrence Nichols, collapsed and died during a thunderstorm in a Wilmington park. Deputy coroner Isaac A. Thornton ruled the death accidental due to shock, noting no physical injuries or marks found in the autopsy.

New Welfare Worker Named for Dane County
William E. Kuntz to start next Tuesday as county child welfare worker. He earned an MSW from the University of Wisconsin last week and a BS in 1953. Born November 12 1928 in Marinette he and his wife Eunice Buege plan to move here after housing is found. He has spent 20 hours weekly in field work in Dane County over the past two years and will replace John F. ONeill who leaves early next month for a State Welfare Department post in Green Bay.

Senate Rebuffs McCarthy Plan on Russia Summit

Monroe Area Girls Become City Officials at Badger Girls State
Representatives from Monroe and Blanchardville were elected as city officials yesterday at Badger Girls State in Madison. Miss Beverly Kuckuck of Monroe and Beverly Thompson of Blanchardville were named city officials as part of a week long government program by the American Legion Auxiliary. Primary elections for state and county officials were to highlight today’s activities with a general election planned for tomorrow. About 144 candidates campaigned in the non partisan contests yesterday.
