City Aldermen approved Brandenburg Plumbing and Heating Co. of Monroe for installing aeration equipment at the sewage plant amid claims by Madison firm C A Hooper Co. that its bid was lower. The vote was 7 to 0 with bid reevaluation and time terms fueling the dispute.
Madison Wisconsin lines report cheddar prices firm with ample 40 pound blocks and varied percentages for other cheddar forms. State brand blocks stay at 40 to 42, with B and C grades at 37 to 40 and noted steady to weak demand on lower grades while supplies remain adequate to ample.
Estes creditor representatives met in Dallas with lawyers to plot recovery of millions owed by West Texas promoter Billie Sol Estes. Senator Wilson said a former official may have ordered allotment approvals, amid a Franklin County death inquiry and a creditors committee set to meet in El Paso to seek court approval.

A large crowd is expected after last week’s enthusiastic turnout while 250 swimmers swam yesterday bringing the season total to 8159.
Wisconsin's new Alice in Dairyland Miss Sylvia Ann Lee of Colfax will visit Green County Friday at the Commercial and Savings Bank from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A noon luncheon at Swiss Wheel invites Chamber guests to meet Monroe merchants and dairy leaders. Next Tuesday she tours Green County cheese plants including Town Hall Chalet and Swiss Colony.
Mr and Mrs Robert Hintz of Brodhead became parents of twins Sears Gliatant Slate and Patricia Farmer. The first child was born at 11 06 with Patricia as the daughter of Mrs J L Shaw of Castroville California. Mrs Hattie Hintzman of Brodhead is the paternal grandmother.
A Thor missile malfunction aborted a high altitude nuclear test near Johnston Island. The unmobilized megaton-plus device was destroyed and dropped into the ocean with no detonation, marking a second failure in two tries.
Madison Attorney General John W. Reynolds ruled the GOP led move to reconvene the Legislature in defiance of Governor Nelson illegal. He said reconvening by self motion voids any laws passed and noted the session must serve only the governor’s special reapportionment purpose. The action followed a federal judges panel request for timely redistricting before 1962 elections.
A large barn on the Melroy Kestell farm just north of Waldo burned Tuesday night. Kestell, a widow with eleven children, faced the loss of her structure and livelihood. Fire crews battled the blaze but the barn was destroyed.
Gov Nelson’s reapportionment plan shifts Green County from the First District to the Third for Congress, and moves Green and Lafayette into a Dane County Senate district while creating a single Green Lafayette Assembly district. The changes undo Green County’s long attachment to the First District, a history spanning since the 1930s.
A 22 year old rural Orfordville girl admitted beating her newborn illegitimate daughter to death with a stick and was jailed on murder charges. Gerald Jeremiason, 22, Monticello, allegedly disposed of the body in a shallow grave near Monroe. Authorities said the case is under Rock County jurisdiction with autopsy confirming skull fracture death.

A British Airlines Boeing 707 jet with 111 passengers made a safe emergency landing at London Airport when its landing gear locked open. No injuries were reported and authorities investigated the gear failure.
A Madison public hearing will review all reapportionment bills at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the State Assembly chamber. The GOP plan adds two seats in Waukesha County by removing one from Douglas County and adding Florence Forest and Langlade counties to surrounding districts. Waukesha would gain two seats for a total of four, while Milwaukee County gains no new representation. The proposal also moves the 9th congressional district’s territory into southeastern Wisconsin, absorbing parts into the 10th 7th and 3rd districts.
