Infant's Body Found in Rural Grave Near Monroe
A 22 year old Orfordville woman identified as the baby's mother faces possible charges after an infant girl about four or five days old was found buried in a seed corn sack on the Henry Marty farm northwest of Monroe. An autopsy showed death by skull fracture. Investigators said the crime, if any, likely occurred in Rock County and police chase leads to a Monroe man being questioned. state crime lab experts were summoned as a search of vehicles and sites continues.

Deena Speich holds a 233 vote lead in Monroe as preliminary tallies from most communities show standings for the Green County Dairy Queen contest. Balloting continues through June 23 to determine three finalists per community, with nine finalists to be judged at the Dairy Banquet in Brodhead on June 28 and the queen announced before the Dairy Day parade on June 30. Other leaders include Candy Buehl in Monticello with 235 votes and Sandra Helland in Juda with 222 votes, with several communities reporting unreadable or no early results.

Council Meets Tonight Board Opens Bids On Sewer Projects
The Brandenburg Plumbing and Heating Co. was the low bidder for the aeration equipment installation at the sewage plant and for sanitary sewer work at Twining Park. The V U Stauffacher Construction Co. of Monroe was the low bidder for the blower building and drainage structures. The board rejected the sole bid for electrical work and will readvertise. A public hearing on a new peddler's ordinance is set for the 7:30 p.m. City Hall meeting to align city codes with state statutes.

Marshall Death Stays Unsolved After Grand Jury Action
Franklin Texas. A suicide verdict remains in the 1961 shooting of Henry H. Marshall an Agriculture Department official. The Robertson County grand jury reviewing the case found evidence insufficient to indict at this time. Marshall who chaired cotton allotment probes into Billie Sol Estes was shot five times at his ranch June 3 1961. An autopsy cited possible carbon monoxide inhalation but noted a nonfatal forehead bruise.
