China To Return Three U S POWs

Peiping radio said three Americans and two Belgians who chose to remain in Red China after the Korean War will be sent home. Four Sabre Jet pilots freed recently also reached home. The broadcast noted 16 other U S and Belgian POWs may depart anytime, but did not specify a date or location for release.

Janesville Chorus Captures Top Barber Shop Award

A 35-voice Janesville Wisconsin chorus won the third SPEBSQSA international contest in Miami Beach after a hotel delay. The group arrived ten minutes late to the stage at the city auditorium, performed two numbers, and defeated nine other choruses before 4000 spectators.

Spooner Man Reveals Fatal Ride Details

Ward Winton said Spooner poolroom owner Arthur Kaiser admitted that 31 year old Mrs. Gertrude Hanson was injured when she fell from a moving car during a drinking spree. Kaiser recounted that Hanson, after visiting taverns, rode in the back seat with legs outside as he drove between 50 and 60 mph and stopped to prevent her from jumping.

Firing Honors Listed for Unit at Camp McCoy

Members of Co. K Mon roe's National Guard earned weapon firing honors during the first week of summer encampment at Camp McCoy. Lt Dwight C Coplien led pistol efforts with expert rating while several others earned sharpshooter with pistol BAR carbine and other weapons. Weather was generally good and the unit will depart Monday for a three day bivouac to study field problems and continue training.

Artesia man Lester C. Plummer sues Carlsbad revenue agent Buck Caviness seeking 412 billion in damages over a May 3 levy on his bank account allegedly for social security taxes. Plummer claims the action was illegal and unconstitutional and seeks 1.5 trillion in damages.

IOOF Hall Burns At South Wayne

A fire caused by suspected faulty wiring in a refrigerator destroyed part of the IOOF hall in South Wayne and caused smoke damage to adjacent Bergers grocery, Jennings restaurant, and the Edmund Jennings apartment. Fire Chief Freddie Meiers said the blaze was the worst in 15 years, with losses over $3,000. one firefighter, Herman Krupke, was treated and released after being struck by a glass ring from a hose.

Shrine trip to Milwaukee Braves Giants game

Representatives said 225 of 300 Shrine trip tickets were sold for the Milwaukee Braves and New York Giants game tomorrow. A special air conditioned Milwaukee Road train with six passenger cars and a refreshment car will depart at 8 30 a m, with sandwiches prepared by a Shrine committee for the journey.

Clayton Olsen 36 was acquitted of embezzling up to 6347.12 from the dairy he managed in Sturgeon Bay. A Door County court jury found him innocent after a 10 day trial Friday.

Glenn Eric Anderson of Englewood California, son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Anderson, wins a contract to star as Elroy Hirsch’s son in a TV series titled Crazylegs. He learned lines in a day and will shoot starting July, with his family noting his rapid memorization and resemblance to Hirsch’s son Win. The boy was born January 6 1949 in Rockford and attends Republic Studio school four days a week while living near the ocean three miles away.

Mrs Leiser 81 Orangeville Dies at Home

Mrs Katharina Leiser 81 of Orangeville died yesterday afternoon at her home after five years bedfast. Born in Weisenbach Bei Boltigen Switzerland March 1 1874 she came to the United States in 1885 and married Fred Leiser in 1895 in Sylvester Township. Survivors include three sons three daughters seven grandchildren six great grandchildren and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday at St Johns Evangelical and Reformed church with burial in Greenwood cemetery.

Expelled U.S. Aides Left Moscow in May

Walter Walmsley the U.S. minister disclosed that three American army attachés expelled by Russia left Moscow more than two weeks ago. Five year old Sharon Saunders of Brodhead, critically ill in a Madison hospital from an undetermined ailment, appeared brighter yesterday afternoon according to her grandmother Mrs Ed Saunders Route 4 Monroe. Her parents Mr and Mrs Francis Saunders visited Madison while Mrs Saunders stayed with Sharon. Her temperature has not risen as high as before.
