Madison A John Doe investigation began today into a plan to discredit Gov Reynolds and other state officials using staged photographs. Dane County DA Michael B. Torphy Jr. and Circuit Judge Norris E. Maloney will lead the secret probe, with two Milwaukee men moved to Madison to testify. Forbes and Cassel, both 29, were brought under writs of habeas corpus and face sentences on burglary and mail theft charges.

Firemen Answer Two Calls in City Monroe
Monroe firemen answered two calls last night and early today. At 6 12 p m they were summoned to 2539 9th Street for a blaze started when a coat hung over a light fixture ignited. Fire chief Benkert said the fire was out when they arrived. Later a car fire in the 600 block of 20th Avenue involved Kay L St Clair of Silvis Illinois. Engine was heavily damaged. St Clair remained in Monroe overnight and was picked up today.

Bus Plunge Kills Six In Span Mishap At Pontchartrain
In New Orleans two barges struck a gap in the world’s longest bridge before dawn. A Trailways bus plunged into Lake Pontchartrain, killing six passengers and leaving the driver and another survivor among the few saved. Divers recovered several bodies from the bus submerged in about 15 feet of brackish water, with one victim trapped in the wreckage. The incident cut about 200 feet of the causeway, a low bridge like a highway on stilts, as massive barges (a gravel carrier and a dredge) struck it.

Inspecting General Calls Wisconsin 32nd Best National Guard Unit

Neil A Jacobs, a cadet at the Air Force Academy, rescued seven year old Thomas Pink after a slip at the Monroe swimming pool.
