Ralph Pfund of route 5 sustained second and third degree burns on arms and face while attempting to pour gasoline on smoldering underbrush after a brush fire, now in generally good condition at St. Clare hospital. Kevin V. Marchant, son of Mr and Mrs Mason E Marchant of Juda route 2, was dragged about 100 feet by a car while visiting Mrs Campbell. he is in good condition after hospitalization for scratches and minor head injuries. Mrs John Schild Jr of route 4 is hospitalized after breaking her left hip in a Saturday mower fall, undergoing surgery and is in satisfactory condition.
Higley led the county delegation with 16 votes for Higley and two for Walter Kohler, one for Senator Gordon Bubolz, in Milwaukee GOP endorsements. For lieutenant governor the bloc backed Alex Nicol with 10 votes and George Smith with 9. Vernon Thomson won attorney general backing with 12 votes while Jerom Murphy, Francis Garity and William Dieterich trailed. County members said all three major governor candidates were capable, but Higley was the favorite.
At a three day convention in Sheboygan Purple Heart medal winners elected a new state commander. The group also approved a resolution praising Senator Joseph McCarthy for his efforts against alleged communism in high government office.

Robert McGowan 30 of Marinette was killed when struck by a car on Highway 64. August Golomieski 65 of Waukesha drowned in the Fox River. Joseph Crotteau 41 of Duluth died from burns near Brule while working on a house moving project. Charles Evenson six, of Stanley, sank in Eau Claire River while teaching others how to swim. resuscitation failed.
Associate professor of speech at University of Illinois Herbert Kubly and son of Nick H Kubly of New Glarus received a Fulbright grant for ten months abroad. He will lecture on American theater at the University of Milan and study state subsidized theaters in Italy and Europe. He sails October 13 on the SS Vulcania and plans to return to Urbana after September 1951.
A three-man crew replaced the old stair at City Hall with a two-flight, gentler design. The new stairs add a wide landing and extend the bottom and top by two feet, easing ascent for older visitors. Final touches were made as plans to move City Hall were discussed. Carpenters William H. Walters Eugene Beach and Osbin Vincent of Alvin F. Rote Co. completed the quick switch.

World War I flier from Beaver Falls Pennsylvania named Mark Moltrup, 52, lay injured for nearly two days after a plane crash near Houghton Lake. He dragged himself six miles to summon help. He was found by a motorist and taken to Mercy Hospital, where doctors treated a skull fracture and other injuries. State police later escorted him to the hospital.
