A 60 year old Brick building housing the Wheelock furniture store in Rock Falls was destroyed by a fire sparked by a lightning strike at 5:20 a.m. Local fire departments from Rock Falls Sterling Morrison Walnut and Dixon battled the blaze for five hours. Losses exceed $100,000 with about $5,000 water damage to a neighboring variety store. The Bell Telephone wire box at the rear melted during the incident.
