Louis O’Brien Dies of Injuries in Fall at Home Silo

Louis R. O’Brien 81 of Route 2 Brooklyn died in a Madison hospital after a skull fracture from a fall inside his silo near Oregon Dane County. His son found him unconscious. coroner ruled accidental death. Survived by widow two daughters a son and other relatives. Funeral 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Mother of Consolation Oregon with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery Oregon.

Sun Appears in Smoky Rainbow Halo This Morning

The sun appeared around 11 in a smoky hazy sphere and formed a rainbow halo. The Associated Press reports a similar event last year, explaining it by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The Weather Bureau sees no rain in sight.

Field Day On Norton Farm At Monroe Event

State Agriculture Dept Holds Hearings on Milk Rules

The State Department of Agriculture will hold hearings in Madison on June 13 and June 15. The sessions will review proposed changes to milk regulations. The first hearing covers grade A milk and milk products rules aligned with U.S. Health Service recommendations. The second considers amendments to minimum standards for manufacturing milk.

The Monroe Cheese Days committee authorized the Jaycees to sell buttons for the September festival. Four Monroe seniors win Kiwanis Vocational Scholarships

Linda Lee Gille Edward Holcomb Donna Schubert and David Sorenson were named Kiwanis Vocational Scholarship winners each receiving 200 dollars to pursue preferred training. Edward M. Adam cited support from Kiwanis fundraisers and noted emphasis on practical fields and returning to Monroe. This is the second year for the program following 1966 honorees.

Rhea C Myers Succumbs at 74 in Monroe

Rhea C Myers 74 a Monroe resident died at 12 10 this morning in St Clare Hospital where he had been a patient since May 7 Complications followed a stroke He worked as a salesman for Durfee Roofing Co Madison later with Edwards Roofing Co Freeport He was born April 17 1893 in Greene County Tennessee and attended Baptist School Knoxville He graduated from Valparaiso University Law School practiced in Potter County Texas in 1925 was district attorney for Amarillo in 1938 He married Wilda Hustad in 1925 in Rockford She died in 1932 He later married Ruth Wood Stauffacher in Denison in 1951 He leaves a son Rhea B in LaCrosse two brothers and three grandchildren Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
