Civil War Vet Sgt Ostrander Remembered in Local Obituary
John H. Ostrander, a veteran of Co D First Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, died January 31, 1935 at age 98 in Green County. Born August 28, 1836 in Steuben New York, he later farmed in Green County and served as a sergeant during the Civil War. He helped in Sheriff duties, served on the Green County Board and school board, and left 22 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. His funeral included Taps by Brodhead Legion.
