Vatican City reports Pope John XXIII unleashes a 25 000 word encyclical urging industry to limit profits and increase wages for a dignified life. He calls for just sharing of production gains, social justice within nations, and aid to underdeveloped peoples while reaffirming private property within moral limits.
Green County 4 H livestock judging team finished second in the state at Madison. Iowa County won and will compete in Chicago. Green County may attend the American Royal in Kansas City this October. Coaches George Gramling and Richard Ammon led the team, with Jerrold Zuhlike Richland club third high, Gary Brewer Jolly Mixers fourth high, Robert Ammon Monroe Ag, and Larry Leopold Oakley. The state tractor driving contest also took place in Madison, with Green County rider Richard Freitag Little Hill High finishing ninth.
Governor Nelson appoints Baraboo resident Mrs Kathryn Hill to a four year term on the University of Wisconsin Board of Visitors today. She succeeds Richard G Smith of Jefferson whose term expired.
Adolf Eichmann urged Israeli judges to view him as a minor conspirator rather than the chief architect of the Holocaust. Under cross examination he insisted decisions were made elsewhere, admitting some meetings and orders, while noting that complete files were burned. The trial adjourned at 12:45 p.m. until Monday.

Madison and Wisconsin cheese markets held steady with unchanged prices this week. National American cheese production fell 8 percent to an estimated 26,850,000 pounds, while Swiss prices were unsettled to weak with little buying demand.

Firemen from Monroe extinguished a blaze at the fairgrounds horse barn after it broke out around 2 p.m. Authorities said wiring connected this noon sparked the fire. The fire damaged the east end, scorched siding, and may have destroyed the building if it had occurred at night.
