Board OKs Two Low Bids For City Work
The Monroe Board of Public Works approved two low bids for city projects at its regular meeting. Kennedy Construction of Janesville bid 37 150 for bituminous paying work, and Ray Heinzelman of Monroe won 3 020 for sanitary sewer construction at Crandell Inc. site. A special council meeting at 8 a.m. Thursday will consider the board's recommendations so work can begin, as Kennedy seeks to start Monday.

Alert System Siren Testing Planned for Friday
Monroe Civil Defense director Theodore Weiss announced Friday morning siren tests across the city. Three new sirens funded with federal matching funds will be tested individually and together to gauge effectiveness for tornado alerts. Two small units are near Monroe High School and on 8th Avenue, with a larger siren atop the Fire Station tower replacing the old unit installed in 1925.

Buholzer Hurt In Car Cycle Crash At City Intersection
