One-Car Crash Fatal to Youth From Brodhead

A Brodhead youth Torles H Tolley died in a one car crash on a Winnebago County road near South Beloit. The incident occurred about 3 30 yesterday morning as deputies said Tolley was traveling at high speed and lost control. Coroner termed the death accidental.

Utility Storm Wrecks Monroe Area Power Lines

A violent wind and rainstorm lashed southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois causing major utility outages in Monroe. Crews from United Telephone Co and Wisconsin Power and Light repaired limbs and downed lines after a walnut tree fell on 11th Street. Affected residents included Kenneth C. Allen and Wendell Brunkow’s damaged airplane, with further damage reported to crops and trees across the region. Tornadoes and three-state winds kept utility crews busy as more storms approached.

Col Blum Injured Again in Viet Battle

Lance Corporal Roger W. Blum USMC age 18 son of Mr and Mrs Willis Blum 1409 29th Ave wounded for the third time since arriving in Viet Nam in February. He suffered fragmentation wounds to his right hip shoulder elbow and both legs from a mine. He was treated at the 3rd medical battalion and evacuated by air to Yokosuka Japan for further care. He was awarded the Purple Heart last month and sent a note saying he is proud to be doing something worthwhile.

County Holstein Show Tops Honors for Monroe Families

Monroe and Green County families dominated the Holstein show at the county fair, drawing 125 exhibitors from Green, Rock and Dane counties. Herbert Huffman and James Huffman along with John Ruff and Robert Ruff led the triumphs, claiming grand and senior titles with Clydell Jo Jo Fanny and Rufi Homestead P. P. King among others. The event featured the largest junior heifer entries to date, judged by Ray Brubacher with cochairmen Donald Timm and Herbert Huffman.

Man Injured While Diving at Yellowstone Lake Dam

Beloit man Tom Ambler, 28, was admitted to St. Clare Hospital at 2 p.m. with a dislocated neck after diving from the Yellowstone Lake dam. He was reported in good condition this morning. Clarence Benkert, game manager, said Ambler dove from the lake side while swimming with friends. He noted hazardous swimming near the dam and plans for a 100 by 300 foot concrete and sand swimming area to be built next season, pending committee approval and Conservation Department consent.

Tragic Drowning Claims Two Schroeder Brothers

Two Dodgeville men Lavern E. Schroeder 50 and Frederick Gerald Schroeder 48 drowned near Spring Green while trying to rescue the teenage daughter of Lavern’s family outing on the Wisconsin River. An unidentified boy saved the girl and performed resuscitation as the brothers’ bodies were recovered. The families, military and civilian relatives mourn. funeral arrangements for Lavern are pending.
