Alfonsi Found Guilty of $100 Bribe in Wisconsin Assembly

Assembly Minority Leader Paul Alfonsi sobbed and pleaded innocence after jurors found him guilty of taking a $100 check from Hayward resort owner Anthony Wise as part of an alleged deal to marshal support for a highway bill. Sentencing set for next Friday. maximum penalty five years and $1000 fines. Alfonsi plans an immediate appeal with attorney John Fritschler Jr. leading motions.

Monroe Board of Education Looks to Indoor Pool and Budget

The Monroe Board of Education approved including 25000 in the 1966 67 budget to study an indoor pool at Monroe High School with voter approval due July 25. If funded, plans drawn by an architect and a cost estimate would follow, with day use for students and evening public access under a city lease and user fees to cover lifeguards and lockers. The board also voted to heat a new elementary school with fuel oil, heard views from fuel and gas industry reps, and tabled Mrs Barbara Hammerly’s resignation until July 25.

Mrs. Magnie Thorne visits her son Richard Bruce Ricky Thorne in Michigan after he was abandoned at Miami airport last September 21. Doctors and psychiatrists see hope he may speak and function normally, though he still does not talk. Farm Bureau States Meeting at Madison
