Senator Gaylord Nelson warns at the Wisconsin Pest Control Conference that the EPA plans to cancel range land use of 2 4 5-T. He questioned past use of the herbicide to defoliate Grant County pastures.
The Florida White House and Hanoi announced that top level Paris peace talks will resume Tuesday to finish the text of an agreement. Kissinger will resume private negotiations with Le Duc Tho and Xuan Thuy on Jan 23 1973 and may stay in Paris for some time. Gen Haig briefed allies after talks with Thieu as Bangkok and Phnom Penh movements shape the near final framework with Vietnam’s prisoners of war and territorial provisions under discussion.
Peggy Haas 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Haas of Monroe, is named to the AFS School Year Program for a year in Brazil. She will depart from New York on January 27 at 4 p.m. and live with the de Jesus family in Goiania Goias, attending Colegio Estadual de Goiania. She is Monroe High School’s first student in the School Year AFS program, following prior participation by Donna Swiggum Bobby Benkert Janet Williams and Jody Wegmueller in Summer AFS programs.
Don Stewart of Westminster California led an all day session at Monroe High urging a humanizing, pupil oriented system driven by learning outcomes rather than class time. He criticized curve grading and called for teacher accountability based on student learning, plus a shift in tests to identify and address learning gaps. Ed Bowling of the NSBA accompanied him.
AP reports President Nixon returns to Washington after six days at Key Biscayne and opens second term events with a reception for Vice President Agnew and a salute to the states. Pat Nixon to substitute for him at two receptions as he arrives too late.
The Monroe Jaycees named two Outstanding Senior Citizen Award recipients, the Urbans Joe and Sally, at Bosses Night at Monroe Country Club. Seven people were honored, including Paul Schoenike Outstanding Young Educator and Gene Lumm Outstanding Young Man.
