Sugar River State Trail to Become Green County Park
The Natural Resources Board named Sugar River State Trail as Green County’s state park on the former 23 mile railroad from Brodhead to New Glarus and Monticello. Heritage Hill State Park will be Brown County’s Cotton House. The trail runs 276 acres from farm lands through timber, wildlife refuges, and a rock gorge with seasonal scenery. Freight on the New Glarus Branch ceased March 30, 1972. The purchase cost was 74000 dollars in 276 acres.
