A fatal accident in Brown County Tuesday night raises Wisconsin's 1973 traffic death toll to 34, up from 29 on the date a year earlier. The roundup also notes Argyle PSC approval for a $38,500 diesel electric unit and other state news.

Gen. Alexander Haig Jr met with President Thieu in Saigon for about an hour to review a revised peace draft. Sources say Thieu answered questions on the draft and discussed protocols and prisoner releases as plans for a unilateral cease-fire were anticipated around Nixon's inauguration. Diplomatic figures expect broad international guarantees.
Monroe Volunteer Firemen responded to two 8 05 p m calls Tuesday both false alarms from the same caller. One report cited a rural residence on County Trunk N and another a barn fire off Wis 81 in Skinner Creek. Fire Chief Joe Benkett halted the barn response after verifying the house fire was also a false alarm and considered action against the caller.
The Monroe City Council approved purchasing 5.4 acres east of the Swiss Wheel motel for the National Guard Armory at 22 500 dollars. Other actions included investing 21 560 in CDs, authorizing 750 000 loan funds for disposal plant and sewer projects, and granting various licenses and contracts.
Green County Special Investigator John Lewis announced three young males from Orfordville were arrested and $9 000 to $10 000 worth of goods were recovered. Deputies cleared two months of burglaries in Monroe Brodhead and Juda as teams from Green and Rock counties pursued cases. Ages ranged from late teens to early 20s. Victims included Alphorn Ford Myers Swiss Cheese Shop Fish Lumber Yard Vend A Wash Iverson Chevrolet Roderick Lumber Co R & R Lumber Yard Newman Seed and Feed. The investigation continues.
St Clare Hospital reached a peak of 240 patients this morning, administrator Sister Wilfreda said, the highest since it opened. A hospital spokesman noted beds were added in the old section to accommodate the overflow. Remodeling is underway on several floors of the old section.
