The board also recommended quotes for a new Park and Recreation truck and station wagon and bids on 8500 feet of curb and gutter under the 1966 special assessment program. It also recommended partial payments to Brandenberg Plumbing and Heating for the Fire and Police Station air conditioner and Arrow Sales Co. for furniture, to be considered at tonight's City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Mother's March raises total to over last year's mark
Delbert Krupke, Monroe chairman for March of Dimes, announced the final tally of the Mother’s March efforts. The initial total came to 1 557 dollars 95 cents, later rising by 14 dollars to 1 571 dollars 95 cents as more blocks reported. He expected the final total to exceed last year’s amount.

Program is Successful Cafeterias Provide Balanced Meals
Monroe Public Schools administrator William Stuckey notes school cafeterias deliver nutritious meals and learning benefits. Two cafeterias operate at Senior High and Junior High with 70 percent and 65 percent daily participation, respectively. Milk program offers a half pint per student daily at two cents, and menus meet protein, fruit or vegetable, bread, butter, and milk portions totaling one third of daily needs.

Salesman Bert Adelman Dies at 85 in Monroe
Bert J. Adelman 85 of 2222 8th St. Monroe died at 3:05 am in St. Clare Hospital after entering Jan. 27. A former farmer, he was a long-time farm equipment salesman for Speciality Service Co., Monroe and Madison Silo Co. He continued selling silos after retiring from J. Jacob Tschudy Co. in 1950. He was born Oct. 4, 188x south of Oakley, married Zoe Brunkow Feb. 20, 1902 in Freeport, and moved to Monroe in 1928.
