City to Study Aged Housing Plan in Monroe

Mayor Walter R. Ekum named a three member committee to study a low cost housing project for residents aged 62 and over. The plan envisions 70 to 120 apartments funded 100 percent by the federal government with a five member housing authority and rentals around 38 to 42 dollars monthly including utilities.

Deed Accepted for Church Site Museum Plan in Monroe

The Monroe City Council formally accepted the Unitarian Universalist church deed to house a future historical museum. A lease with the Green County Historical Society will be discussed, aiming to operate the museum in summer 1966. A two man committee to locate artifacts was disbanded and old City Hall site plans revisited.

Exchange Student to Attend Model U.N. Conference

Monroe Chapter of the American Field Service voted to sponsor Cris Wilson the Monroe AFS student from New Zealand to the model U.N. Conference at Milton College January 28 to 30 1966. Elections planned for March set two year terms for officers and outlined local chapter leadership.

Annual Sounds of Christmas by Monroe High Band

Monroe High School symphonic band presented Sounds of Christmas at the Junior High auditorium drawing a near capacity crowd. Allan F Barnard and Vance W Nelson led the program featuring The Old Hunter and Golden Gate with Cathy Gempeler narrating. Annual Session Set by Farm Unit

Green County Farm Cooperative hosts an annual meeting at 7 p.m. February 23 in Turner Hall with reports and officer elections. Guest speaker Henry Schriever of Grafton Ohio will discuss cows kids and co ops. A stockholders meeting December 14 votes on merging New Glarus Feed and Fuel with Green County Farmco. Green County unit stockholders meet December 16 to vote on the merger.
