Green County Hospital unveils a $559000 wing adding 104 beds and space for administration, kitchen and therapy. The dedication is set for Saturday at 1 30 p m with Wilbur Schmidt speaking. open house follows Sunday 1 30 to 5 p m.
The AP reports astronauts Borman and Lovell remain in good condition with sleep and nourishment despite oxygen breathing effects. Gemini 6 launch prep delays persist as teams replace a top computer on the pursuit craft for a December 13 Cape Kennedy takeoff. Clouds affect experiments but not the mission. Astronauts swap Earth photos for navigation uses and Lovell adapts a cooler undergarment.
Hog prices surged to near all time highs at Milwaukee stockyards with lightweight butcher hogs selling for a top $30.20 per hundredweight. The report notes strong demand and firm market conditions in the cattle and hog trade.
The Monroe Chamber of Commerce offers free warning cards about shoplifting penalties at its office. Merchants are urged to display the cards to deter theft during the holiday season. Executive secretary Vernon Schillinger notes fines up to $200 and possible six months imprisonment or both for theft without payment arrangements.
J A Horgen of the Badger Red Cross in Madison spoke at a St. Clare Hospital meeting on expanding county blood collection. The Badger Center released 1966 schedules with a 977 pint county quota and site dates for Monroe Brodhead New Glarus Monticello Browntown Albany and more.
Mayor Walter R. Ekum named a three member committee to study a low cost housing project for residents aged 62 and over. The plan envisions 70 to 120 apartments funded 100 percent by the federal government with a five member housing authority and rentals around 38 to 42 dollars monthly including utilities.
The Monroe City Council formally accepted the Unitarian Universalist church deed to house a future historical museum. A lease with the Green County Historical Society will be discussed, aiming to operate the museum in summer 1966. A two man committee to locate artifacts was disbanded and old City Hall site plans revisited.
Monroe Chapter of the American Field Service voted to sponsor Cris Wilson the Monroe AFS student from New Zealand to the model U.N. Conference at Milton College January 28 to 30 1966. Elections planned for March set two year terms for officers and outlined local chapter leadership.
Monroe High School symphonic band presented Sounds of Christmas at the Junior High auditorium drawing a near capacity crowd. Allan F Barnard and Vance W Nelson led the program featuring The Old Hunter and Golden Gate with Cathy Gempeler narrating. Vocalists Judy Winger Nancy Hughes and David Fulton performed along with The Accents. Top ticket sellers received awards including Susan Mahlbuch.
Green County Farm Cooperative hosts an annual meeting at 7 p.m. February 23 in Turner Hall with reports and officer elections. Guest speaker Henry Schriever of Grafton Ohio will discuss cows kids and co ops. A stockholders meeting December 14 votes on merging New Glarus Feed and Fuel with Green County Farmco. Green County unit stockholders meet December 16 to vote on the merger.
