Wisconsin Weekend Toll Rises in 9 Fatalities to 943
Nine people died in Wisconsin weekend crashes, lifting the 1965 toll to 943. Victims include Thomas M. Evans of Sparta in a US 16 collision near Tomah, Thomas Burlage of Kieler found near Hazel Green, and Daniel Edwards of Manitowoc in a tree crash. Other fatalities occurred in Milwaukee and Wood counties with multiple injuries from pileups north of Janesville. A separate Friday incident near Oshkosh killed Mrs. Mary Pevan, not counted in the weekend toll.

Beloit resident Gary Sveom, 19, in fair condition at St. Clare Hospital after a Sunday evening auto crash on Highway 213 near Orfordville. The lone driver ran off the road, rolled over, and hit a fence. He sustained multiple fractures and injuries to the chest abdomen and legs.

Spectators including his wife watched as the 3 000 foot fall ended in a backyard. Fleming the Lake Geneva organizer witnessed the event and swapped roles after the fatal misfortune.
