Car Drowns in Sugar River near Brodhead
A submerged car near the Sugar River headgates at Brodhead led to the death of Duane R. Arnsmeier, 18, whose companion Michael Flynn, 15, escaped by opening a window and reaching safety. Deputy coroner ruled accidental drowning and noted the vehicle was off a city dump path, not a highway. Nine others injured in area crashes over the weekend were reported by the Green County Sheriff.

Ivan Legler a 47 year old Brooklyn man was gored by a bull at the Legler farm between Brooklyn and Belleville. He sustained a fractured arm an injured shoulder and possible internal injuries. His son Donald used a pitchfork to keep the bull away until help arrived. Sheriff Roy Vetterli said the ambulance squad transported him to Stoughton after a 6 am call.
