Teachers Begin 1967-68 Monroe School Term Orientation Plans

New Monroe School System teachers start the 1967 68 term with a noon Aug 28 dinner at Swiss Colony Inn followed by instructional meetings in Junior High Library and various rooms. A two day general session in Senior High Lecture Hall features speeches by local officials and educators and a special session on innovations in Wisconsin schools. Orientation for St Victor's and a special education workshop at Green County Teachers College are planned with additional activities including a golf outing and a training session for teachers of special education.

Train Tankers Overturn Spill Soybean Oil in Warren Ill

In Warren Illinois a derailment sent ten railroad cars off the track with three tankers overturning and soybean oil spilling into the street near a Top Dollar store. A second derailment on the Burlington line damaged a bridge near East Dubuque. A plane made a forced landing near Warren with no injuries.

Mark Rosa Sports a Beard for Wisconsin Idea Theatre

17 year old Mark Rosa plays a Hungarian private detective in She Loves Me at the Wisconsin Idea Theatre in Spring Green. He chose a beard for realism and also handles scenery lighting and sound. The show runs again tomorrow and the final performance is next Sunday. Previous summer productions included Stop the World I Want to Get Off and The Error of Sexton Jones by Prof Albert Gard.

Paul Muni Dies at 71 After Heart Attack in California

Santa Barbara report notes Paul Muni who died Friday at his Montecito home aged 71 from a heart attack. Survived by widow Bella and two brothers, the Austrian-born actor earned an Academy Award and long acclaim. Funeral set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Memorial Park chapel.

Foreign Student Eva Maretta to Be Honored at Monroe Reception

Members of the American Field Service Chapter of Monroe will meet Miss Eva Maretta of Rome Italy the Monroe High School foreign student this year. Mrs George Barry will host a reception in her honor on Sunday Aug 27 at 4 to 6 p m. Chapter members and spouses are invited. Maretta is living at the Sherman Hodgson home during her senior year.

School Opens August 29 with Lunch Program Start

Gratiot and South Wayne Schools set Tuesday August 29 as first day for most students with an 11 am dismissal for orientation. Kindergarten reports August 30. Hot lunch begins Wednesday with high school tickets 1.50 weekly or 0.35 per meal. grade and junior high 1.25 weekly or 0.30 per meal. Transportation for rural routes starts after two weeks. Schools include Black Hawk High and Junior High at Gratiot and South Wayne plus multiple elementary schools.
