More than two thousand firemen and families flood Monroe hotels for the 29th annual Fire School at the Fairgrounds. Demonstrations include tanker operations and a burn building. events start with registration at 8 a.m. and run to 4 p.m. Admission for men is one dollar. women and children free.

Twelve Dead In Car Truck Crash At Vinton Louisiana

A Greyhound bus and a heavy timber truck collided head on on U S 90 near Vinton Louisiana. Twelve people were killed and 27 injured with several in critical condition. Bus driver Jeff Blankenship of Houston died after hospitalization in Orange and Beaumont. The crash closed the highway until 2 10 a m.

Jeffery Meier Hurt In Monroe Mishap

Jeffery S Meier two year old son of Mr and Mrs Clarence E Meier Route 1 South Wayne was injured in a two car mishap at the intersection of 16th St and 16th Ave at 834 last night. He suffered a scalp laceration needing three stitches and a nasal bridge abrasion. He was a passenger in his father’s car which collided with one driven by Sally A Hall Janesville.
