Birthday honors for Mrs. Sophia Schuetze at 95

The 95th birthday of Mrs. W A Sophia Schuetze is observed with a family dinner at her son’s home 613 25th Avenue. Her daughter-in-law hosts Birthday Circle on Thursday at 1904 Lincoln Road. The family includes son Willard R Schuetze a Monroe businessman, daughters-in-law June and Helen, grandsons Bill John Frederik, and Barbara L Schuetze. Edwin Schuetze and Barbara L Schuetze are among deceased relatives.

Witt Farms Take Champion Honors at Wisconsin State Fair

Green County youths at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee escaped injury as strong winds hail and rain collapsed tents. Don Witt of Monticello and his father Lester Witt had just won beef honors. Don was in a tent that collapsed but unharmed. Over 150 people were treated for injuries. two boys remained hospitalized with head injuries. The event drew about 75 000 on Children’s Day. The Witts’ grand champion shorthorn sold for 1.30 a pound to Pfister Hotels. The fair featured various breeds, grand prize sales, and performances by entertainers including the Raja Marimba Band and Eddie Albert and George Kirby.

Mrs. Laverne Mau of Gratiot attended a Wisconsin Rapids reunion for heart patients at Gross Lodge. The event honors the first 12 open heart surgery patients with a human valve, with Mrs. Mau as patient Number 11. Dr William Young of University Hospital Madison earlier worked in New Zealand on valve replacements.

Tornado Then Fire Hit Arnold Moore Farm Barn

A tornado on June 25 damaged the Arnold Moore farm on Route 1 at Shullsburg. Sunday a fire of undetermined origin destroyed the remaining barn. fire chief James Foley reported the blaze was found by a passing motorist at 4 30 p m and firemen fought it for hours.

Juda Band Plans Concert Tomorrow

Members of the Juda School Panther Band will present a band concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday August 13 in the Juda High School gymnasium. The program features music of a popular nature. The band also performs at the Wisconsin State Fair on Saturday August 16 with a 9 a.m. bus departure from the school and a 1 15 p.m. performance there.
