Area Man Killed In 2 Car Collision

Norman Olson 61 of South Wayne died in a two car crash on Highway 26 near Ladysmith Wisconsin. Ralph Miller 31 and Anthony Lewandowski 34 were injured and hospitalized in serious condition. Other victims Daniel Martinec 16 and Mary Peeters 17 of Butternut were killed. Funeral arrangements for Olson set for West Wiota Lutheran Church with burial at the church cemetery.

Green County Fair Ends With Record Crowds And No Rain

The 115th Green County Fair concluded with perfect weather and record attendance. Harness racing drew large crowds and the Demolition Derby shows set new records. Reid's rides opened as a popular new feature. Incidents included two cars catching fire but no injuries reported.

Son of Area Couple Russell Harnish Stabbed To Death

Russell L. Harnish aged 31 of Freeport was stabbed in a Belvidere area car argument and found dead on a road. Jose Estrada, 22, Belvidere, was charged with murder. Harnish, a Winslow native and Navy veteran, worked at a Belvidere Chrysler plant.

Young Albany Soldier Kris E Shaw Dies in Vietnam

SP4 Kris E Shaw 18 of Route 1 Albany was killed in action in Vietnam after enlisting at 17. He wrote of heavy fighting on the Cambodian border before his death near July 29. Burial plans include Rockford, Illinois, with services in Illinois. He left parents Lyle and Wanda Shaw and siblings Karl Kyle Kurt Konrad Kendall Katrina.

Cheese Firm Faces Pollution Suit Over Creek Waste

Wisconsin Attorney General Robert Warren has filed an injunctive action against Bidlingmaier-Isley Cheese Co. of Monroe in Dane County Court. The suit cites gross pollution of Buckskin School Creek and Pecatonica River due to an inadequate septic system for sanitary and milk wastes. It seeks court orders for proper waste treatment facilities and up to 5000 dollars for each day since the March 21 DNR order.

Janesville Teen Injured After Roller Skating Mishap

Miss Diane Marie Dransfield, 19, of Janesville, injured her elbow in a fall at a local rink last evening. She was admitted to St. Clare Hospital after transfers from Mercy Hospital Janesville and Monroe hospital, and surgery on the elbow was planned for today. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs David Dransfield.

Schuetze Featured 500 Impressed With Idea Play

A crowd of about 500 attended the Wisconsin Idea Theatre production Town Hall Tonight at the Band Shell in Twining Park. The Monroe Park Board sponsored the free show featuring John Schuetze and a versatile cast performing singing dancing and acting with quick-change costumes and 19th century numbers. The program will tour the Midwest including the Wisconsin State Fair and World Food Exposition with credits listed.

Death of Monroe purchasing agent Miss Thelma Gamm

Miss Thelma Gamm 54 purchasing agent at Oaktron Industries of Monroe died at 2 45 p m Sunday Aug 3 in St Clare Hospital after a five year cancer illness. She moved to Monroe 15 years ago from Missouri and was active in Immanuel United Methodist Church and Alpha Zeta chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. She had just returned from Missouri for her father Fred Gamm s funeral. Her father died July 18 in White Haven Nursing Home. Services Aug 5 at Stnessy Funeral Home with burial in Canton s Forest Grove Cemetery. Her mother Mamie Bauer Gamm died July 1 1963. She had no immediate survivors.

Sheriff's deputies and Monroe police logged multiple weekend crashes. Gary L. Anderson 20 Monticello head and neck injuries in a two vehicle crash west of Monticello. Dean M. Walters Browntown treated for cuts after a motorcycle hit a car driven by Alice Keehn Monroe. Minor damage in several other accidents including a deer collision near County Trunk B and a long-distance wreck near Highway 11 81. Elsie Neilson 77 Edgerton died of smoke inhalation in a rural home fire. Fighting flares on Hamburger Hill reported as U.S. paratroopers retook the mountain.
