A two year old from rural Hollandale died after being struck by his grandfather’s car as it backed from a Dodgeville garage. Reed Strapman died at St. Joseph’s hospital after the incident near the Strapman farm. The child stayed with grandparents George and Day and his mother is Georgene Day. The body went to Luloff funeral home.

Mrs. Ida Hauser 74 Dies After Long Illness
Ida Hauser formerly Ida Thorn 74 of 2526 12th Street died at 9 10 a m in St Clare hospital after a long illness. Born March 17 1881 in Switzerland she married Joseph Hauser Feb 21 1911 in Switzerland. They later moved to Monroe after farming near New Glarus. She attended New Glarus Reformed Church. Survivors include daughter Mrs Robert Patterson Monroe three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Body to Zentner funeral home New Glarus services set for Saturday.

Man Kills Lawyer Wounds Judge in Carlisle Courtroom
In Carlisle Pennsylvania Percy Haines aged 60 from Newville produced a pistol in a nonsupport case and fired four rounds. He killed attorney John D Fuller and wounded Judge Mark E Garber and attorney George Black among others. Haines is charged with murder and held without bail.

Thirty-five Apply For Monroe School Superintendent Post
Monroe Board of Education reviewed thirty five applications for the vacant superintendent post in a four and a half hour session. Thirteen candidates were eliminated and ten advised by the University of Wisconsin were not fully followed. Interviews for remaining candidates begin Thursday at 6 30 p m. E O Evans became business manager and will assist for 18 months and the board plans a three year probationary basis for the new head.

London reports communist Bulgaria acknowledged two of its fighter planes downed an Israeli airliner last Wednesday. All 58 aboard perished near the Bulgarian Greek border, including 12 Americans.
