Green County Fair Sidelights and Balloon Event
Twenty five male patients from Green County hospital rode a hayrack to the fair this morning and over forty women were due this afternoon. A refrigerated dairy display case features cheese and dairy products. The Green County Soil Conservation and Grassland Association exhibit includes a mechanical ferris wheel by Edwin Klassy highlighting grassland farming and milk per acre, plus a model hay barn and watershed maps. Ticket takers at the gates include LaVerne Deal Fred Simpson Edwin Andrews Edward Condon Nick Calabresa Orvin White Roy Feldt and Robert Kramer at the east gate Herman Durtschi Harvey Andrews and George Lee at the north gate. Office staff includes Mrs Stauffacher Mrs Calabresa and Mrs Hefty. A warning about entry and property damage is issued. Capt Eddie Allen will balloon from the fair at 7 30 p m tomorrow prior to Jimmy Lynch show. The balloon aims to 4000 feet for a free fall parachute jump. Ernest Hayes oversees the grandstand with Lois Fritz Marian Frei tag and Virgil Waelti selling and ticketing. Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority Alpha Zeta ushers will assist at grandstand events. William Brown fair secretary seeks local helpers to sell carnival ride tickets. current workers include Mowbray Hoesly Schwerin Wenger Blane and Roy Beach.

Record Green County Fair attendance tops previous year
Attendance at the Green County Fair drew strong crowds with 1 822 single tickets sold last night plus 156 adult and 33 children season tickets. First night turnout more than doubled last year’s 843 singles. Officials reported a terrific crowd despite lighter Early shows, while judging continued across departments.

John Buss 85 Dies in Argyle After Illness
John K Buss age 85 of Argyle died at St. Clare hospital at 10 25 last night after two months with pneumonia. He was born June 16 1870 in Desort County Illinois to John and Johanna Buss and lived in Freeport before moving to Argyle. Survivors include Emma Buss his wife a son Elmer Jenning Buss in Washington DC a brother William in South Dakota and one grandchild. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Arrangements await word from Washington and the body rests at Erickson funeral home Argyle.

Swanton Testifies At Gallagher's POW Trial
Specialist First Class Lyle G. Swanton testified in New York that Sgt. James C. Gallagher accused of aiding the enemy and murdering three POWs delivered lectures deriding Americans. Swanton recalled Gallagher claiming Wall Streeters wasted food while people starved, and a fellow prisoner quoted him praising Communism as a better form of government.
