Four Injuries Listed by Police In City Mishaps

Police listed injuries from two weekend accidents in Monroe. Mary Arnsmeier aged 16 and Gloria Beutel age 15, both Juda residents, were treated at St. Clare Hospital after a three car collision at Ninth Street and 18th Avenue. Hazel Smythe and William Smythe, Beloit and Zurich residents, were treated after a parked car collision on Fifth Street. A hit and run was reported by William Kubly, Monroe, with damage to the left front door of his car. A separate noninjury collision occurred at 11th Street and 22nd Avenue involving Melvin Eggemeier and Nora Schulz. Sheriff deputies noted one weekend accident. Richard Speck pleaded innocent in Chicago to indictments accusing eight nursing students’ murders.

Green County Fair Sidelights and Bake Off Winners

Mrs. Delbert Rohde won the Bake-Off with a bing cherry dessert and will enter October state contest. Rita Paulson led junior bake-off with a peach torte. Local lemonade stand by the Brand children funded rides. York 4-H won the cup trophy. Monroe FFA, Hiwatha 4-H, New Glarus, and Brown Town followed. Caricature artist Pedro and harness race prizes noted. Charles A. Schindler recalled past fair years. Capt. Jack Walsh and family stay in Monroe after medical treatment.

Green County Fair Sets Attendance Record for 112th Year

The 112th Green County Fair ended with a record total attendance of 33,667, up 3,239 from last year. Daily tallies show 9,353 on one day and 10,208 on Saturday, with Sunday and Saturday singles listed. grandstand shows and Hurricane Hell Drivers drew large crowds despite late hours.

Horses Will Lead State Fair Horses This Year

Milwaukee report says fish exhibit at Wisconsin State Fair is razed after years of trouble. The fair Aug 12-21 projects more draft horse entries with 178 horses, about double five years earlier, while steer, sheep, dairy cattle steady and swine fewer. Officials cite space issues for horses and replacement with outdoor exhibits.

Barbara Wegmueller crowns Pat Jacobson Alice in Swissland

Nearly 400 Brown Swiss breeders gathered at Sugar Valley Farms near Brodhead for the State Brown Swiss Breeders picnic. Pat Jacobson, 17, Burlington, was crowned this year's Alice in Swissland by Barbara Wegmueller, Monroe, with Georgia Wegmueller, Jocelyn Bray, Marla Walter and Pat Jacobson as finalists. The event featured production awards, show judging, and plans for the new Alice to represent the association at the State Fair and the national meeting in Madison on Nov. 9.

Meeting Set on Vocational School For Green and Lafayette

Green and Lafayette counties will hold an 8 p.m. August 17 meeting in the County Courthouse Circuit Court Room to discuss establishing a two-county vocational and technical school in Monroe. Industry and medical leaders are urged to participate while organizers plan to survey schools for support and consider Monroe as the site due to its growing industry and facilities.

Hospital usage rises across age groups at St. Clare

Data show varying hospital use by age. Young people aged 15 to 24 accessed services at about 50 per 1000 in 1928 43 period, rising to nearly 150 per 1000 in 1957 58.
