Mrs George W Shores Milwaukee spoke urging active government participation and support for a narcotics control bill. The morning included a color presentation by Girl Scout Troop 220 and remarks from Monroe club leaders. The Diamond Jubilee Pageant of the Monroe club closed the afternoon events.

A fire at the Walter Dunlavey residence on the Ben Feldt farm in Sylvester Township caused considerable damage to a second floor clothes closet and nearby floor. Fire Chief Josef Benkert said the blaze started in the closet with smoke damage throughout. Monroe firefighters used smoke ejectors and oxygen masks to locate the source as neighbors aided in removing household items.

Detroit police say George Ritola, 47, who escaped from a mental hospital, confessed to strangling Marvin Zdanowski, 5, whose body was found in a garage.
