Alfred N. Steele, 57, husband of actress Joan Crawford, died in his sleep of a heart attack at their Fifth Avenue penthouse. A Pepsi-Cola executive for a decade, he served as board chairman and chief executive. Steele and Crawford eloped in May 1955.

The largest gathering of instrumentalists in town will perform the 25th anniversary concert in the auditorium at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Open House At Monroe Industrial Combustion Plant Draws 400 Attendees
Community leaders officials and area families toured Monroe s newest enterprise Industrial Combustion Inc attracting over 400 visitors Saturday. Supervisors guided small groups through the plant showing heavy duty burners and explaining operations while refreshments followed in the lobby. The facility, built by Monroe Building Corp from public subscriptions to create jobs, is under a 20 year land contract with Industrial Combustion buying the Burner Division from Cleaver Brooks Milwaukee.

Knife Identified As Death Weapon
Milwaukee detectives identified a hunting knife found near the ditch with the body of six year old Ben Wagner as the murder weapon. Microscopic examination at the State Crime Laboratory matched threads from the boy’s clothing on the blade. Ben was abducted on Milwaukee’s near north side around 6 30 p.m. April 4 and his body was discovered in a roadside ditch in Ozaukee County near Grafton the following day. The knife was recovered April 12 during a search by Milwaukee and Ozaukee County police and Boy Scout volunteers.

The Mutual Aid Fire District and 11 area departments burned the old Sam Stuntz farmhouse between here and Albany on Highway 59 for a training exercise. John Brugger Jr. owned the house and allowed the drill. Dozens of spectators watched as 12 fires were set for ventilation and entry practice from 10 am to 3 pm with Capt Arthur Emerson directing.
