In Brodhead the 440000 school bond referendum to build a new high school failed by 113 votes. Turnout was 1039 ballots cast at the high school from 7 am to 8 pm on the Christensen Malcock 25 acre site in the southwest part of the city. Yes 463, No 576. Decatur Spring Grove and Spring Valley Township turnout was light. Public meetings had the arguments for and against.

Minstrel Show Plans Complete in Wisconsin

Grant County opened its new $175,000 jail yesterday with over 2,000 visitors touring the facility. Architect John W. Steinmann of Monticello led the project, and his Lancaster and Green County connections suggest similar designs for nearby facilities.

Quick-Thinking Youth Halts Gasoline Fire at Hilltop Inn
David Bear, son of Mrs Myra Bear, prevented a major blaze at the Hilltop Inn by throwing metal signs on spilled gasoline in a rear area. Fire Chief Josef J Benkett said the gasoline released from an improperly hung hose ignited fumes near tanks. Bear was burning trash in an incinerator when fumes ignited and flames spread toward the soaked ground.

John Johnson and his wife and newborn daughter lost their home in a late night fire near Blanchardville. Neighbors woke to flames around 8 30 p m and the local fire department responded. no belongings were saved and damage origin is undetermined. Friends may call at Zentner funeral home New Glarus until noon tomorrow when body will be taken to church. She was formerly Louisa Hefty born May 28 1901 in New Glarus Township. Married October 6 1921 at New Glarus to William H Marty. They lived in New Glarus then moved to a farm in Washington Township. She belonged to Swiss United Church of Christ G U G G lodge and Meadow Valley Homemakers club. Surviving are husband two sons Wilton New Glarus and Arthur at home two brothers Jacob B Hefty rural New Glarus and John Hefty Madison two sisters Mrs J Herman Marty New Glarus and Mrs Thomas Ott rural New Glarus and two grandchildren A sister Mrs Theodore Marty died in 1936.

Three young motorists died in Wisconsin crashes over the weekend as the state's 1958 traffic death toll rose to 185, compared with 224 at the same point last year. Harry Jones 21 of Zion Illinois died in a fog bound head on collision south of Kenosha. Dennis Delfeld 14 of rural Brownsville was killed in a northern Knowles crash. Airman First Class Richard Sullivan 20 of Dubuque died when his car left Highway 151 and overturned south of Dodgeville.

Two in Fighter Craft Also Dead In Fiery Mishap
LAS VEGAS NEV A collision over the desert between a United Air Lines DC7 and an F100F from Nellis AFB killed all 47 aboard the airliner and both jet crew members. The crash occurred at 21 000 feet nine and a half miles south of Las Vegas. The airliner carried 37 passengers five airline employees and five crew from Los Angeles to New York via Denver Kansas City and Washington.
