Minstrel Is A Smash Hit In a Lovable Modern Opener

A capacity crowd hailed the 12th Modern Minstrel with the largest opening night audience in the show's history. The production blended wit color and music by the Stage Band as performances by Hugdahl Johnson Kautsky Hawthorne and Siedschlag wowed the audience. Dr Robert Smith and the Kultur Kids delivered standout moments with brass and dance numbers while Archie Myers and Robert Grossman teased with humor and a tuba bit before a hospital mention and a turn to the back page.

Monroe Recreation Department announces post prom activities for the 1969 Junior Prom at Monroe High School gym on Friday May 2. Wisconsin bill to expand patrol powers defeated in Assembly

A proposal to give the Wisconsin Highway Patrol full police powers was defeated 85 to 10 in the Assembly. Patrolmen now have arrest powers only for traffic offenses. Kiwanis Antique Show Brings Towns to Monroe Turner Hall May 2-4

The 14th annual Monroe Kiwanis Club antique show and sale will run May 2 through May 4 at Turner Hall. Co-chairs are William B. Johnston and John McElhaney, with W. R. Recovery Begins After Novel Heart Surgery for Gilmen Anderson

Gilmen Anderson, formerly of rural Albany, underwent a pioneering eight hour heart operation at State University Hospital in Brooklyn on April 7. He has shown satisfactory progress and hopes to return home to Orfordville in about three weeks. A benefit trail ride to aid Anderson is planned for Sunday April 27 starting at the Leon Baumgartner farm near Brodhead, with a lunch stop at the Riemer farm.

Private Practice Ends Dr Robilette Joins Monroe Clinic Staff

Dr J W Robilette, a Monroe optometrist with 19 years in private practice, will join the Monroe Clinic staff on May 1. Born in Chicago, he is a 1948 graduate of Northern Illinois College of Optometry and served 54 months in the Navy and Marine Corps earning a service medal and presidential unit citation. He taught at NIUOC for 18 months before returning to Monroe with wife Parnis Newell and son Jack, who studies music in Paris.
