Ward County Commissioners will name a new sheriff at the regular meeting Monday morning. Acting Sheriff Ben Keele was bonded Wednesday after Sheriff John Ashcraft died. County Judge Richard Litz said the appointee will serve until January 1, 1983 and must run in the November 1982 general election if they want the rest of the term.
A special Monahans City Council session is set for Monday at 2 PM to discuss HB30 and two proposed methods for appointing county appraisal board directors. The three-fourths rule would require a three quarters vote across taxing entities while the accumulative method would allocate directors by each entity’s share of total tax collections, potentially shifting seats toward the Monahans school district.
