New Pastor of Local Church Begins Duties
Francis E. Barnes becomes pastor of the First Christian Church this Sunday May 9 with Mother's Day services and special music. He previously led the Mexia Christian Church since 1936 traveling 13443 miles for study and preaching 60 sermons with three baptisms and four missed Sundays. Mrs Barnes joins June 1 after serving Iraan schools and as secretary to the superintendent.

Jesse Jones Dies Of Heart Complications
Jesse Jones, 54, who arrived about six months ago, died early Tuesday morning from heart problems. He was buried at Monahans cemetery at 5 p.m. Rev. Leon Frazier led the funeral, Walter Harwell Funeral Home handled arrangements. Jones worked at Brannon's Machine Shop in Kermit and left a wife, two adopted children, and relatives in Iowa.

Monahans Volunteer Fire Department takes delivery of a new 125 horsepower American La France fire truck costing about 6200 dollars. A. M. Busby of La France Elmira New York will train firefighters this week with the eight cylinder vehicle and 500 gallon pump. The rig includes 2000 feet of hose and meets Underwriters specifications. Vacation car crash ends in death near Etowah

Monahans senior high school band will travel by school bus to Oklahoma City Friday and Saturday 14 and 15 to compete in the National Center contest against about 40 bands. Charles G. Walker and 53 band members plan to leave Wednesday for the capital, seeking a high Class C ranking earned at the State Band Convention in Lubbock.
