Texas oil output by county tops charts in 1980
The 1980 state oil report shows Yoakum as the top producing county followed by Gaines and Ector in order. Twenty one counties exceeded 10 million barrels, with Gregg County as the all time leader at 2.73 billion barrels through 1980, while Ector and Andrews also posted multi billion totals. The piece also notes 16 other counties surpassed the 10 million mark last year. A separate anecdote recalls a boy misplacing a dime and a kind adult replacing it.
