Texas Oil Output Declines Again Amid Drilling Boom
Texas produced nearly 960 million barrels of oil and 29 million barrels of condensate in 1980, a drop from 1979 and far below 1972 peak. Ward County yielded about 9.8 million barrels, lifting its cumulative state total to 581 million barrels. Despite lower output, industry activity rose as wells completed reached 18,697, the highest since 1957, amid price-control phaseouts by Washington. Continued aggressive drilling aims to offset future declines.
