City trims expenses as council cuts running costs.
The Mitchell city council, with five aldermen present, reduced appropriations for city expenses from 15 510 to 14 510 and limited funds in most areas. Water works received a minor rise for a new artesian well while audits, receipts, and expenditures were reviewed. A sidewalk replacement and plank-walk repairs were ordered, and a bill for lights from the electric company was deferred for further negotiation.

The party will meet in Chicago and proceed to Cincinnati for the gathering.

Cattle Seizure and Forfeit Action in McPherson County
United States district attorney through Marshal Kennedy seized 941 head of cattle owned by E. H. Hineman of McPherson County. Purchased in Manitoba the stock entered the country at Pembina. A new appraisal raised value by 10 955, with a fine for undervaluation, and a suit for forfeiture is filed. An attaché will serve papers in the case. F P Stearns moved his insurance office into the Beckwith block and will occupy one of Goodykoontz's apartments.
