Both Sides of Mitchell Pastor Case Told in Lis ton

Prairie Fire roars through Lisbon township burning hay

A Monday prairie fire originating in Lisbon township swept over a large farming area damaging hay stock. Reports of houses and several residents in its path proved unreliable as the blaze, driven by shifting winds, was driven toward the southeast. Firefighters and residents battled flames for hours until a rain around 10 PM quelled the fire and likely saved much property.

Demurrer Sustained in Roy Colwell City Suit

Roy Colwell of Alexandria sued the City for 15000 damages. Judge Smith presided as T A Zollman appeared for Colwell and city attorney T J Spangler argued the case. The court sustained the demurrer and gave Colwell 20 days to amend, with trial moved to the November circuit term. Black leg has appeared among John Gatze’s cattle north of town, with 4 of his about 40 head already dead, and others may follow within 12 to 24 hours.

Mrs Distad telegrams from Sioux City announce the sudden death of Mons Distad. He was about 45, an early Mitchell resident who later moved to Sault Ste Marie Chamberlain and Sioux City where he worked in real estate. Ed Devy traveled to Sioux City after learning of the death.
