Landslide Returns in County Races For Judge Smith

Vote tallies show Judge Frank Smith winning the Fourth Circuit by a solid plurality. In Davison County John H Goodykoontz trails, while C F Drake defeats Populist candidate in the second commissioner district with a 27 vote margin across Rome Lisbon and Tobin townships. Full outside county returns awaited.

Judge Smith Leads With Broad Plurality Across Counties

Early returns show Judge Smith ahead by a solid margin in several counties. Sanborn County gives Smith 65 to Fellows 35, Miner County reports 230 for Smith and 104 for Goodykoontz with Fellows 48, Lyman 74 for Smith and 48 for Goodykoontz, Hanson County 86 in Smith's favor, while Jerauld County is expected to be nearly even.

Mrs Kibbee Hosts Two Days of Social Tea and Euchre

Mrs. H R Kibbee hosted two consecutive days of entertaining for lady friends. Thursday featured a 4 to 7 tea with 5 30 serving, assisted by Mrs. Wm Smith and Mrs C H Kibbee. Friday planned progressive euchre with six tables, prizes for top players, and floral decor in each room.

Halloween Party At University In Scottish Costume

A Halloween celebration was held Saturday evening in the university commercial room transformed with decorations and a large fireplace. Jack o lanterns lit the scene as couples in Scottish personas danced. notable attendees included Annie Laurie with her partner and pairs such as Lord and Lady Macbeth, Marmion and Lady Clare, and Tam o Shanter with Nannie. A short program and refreshments followed.

First National Bank Directors Hold Annual Meeting

The officers and directors held their annual meeting Monday evening with several outside stockholders present. No change in officials occurred. Cashier O L Branson has bought a substantial stock block making him a fixture in the bank, and directors praised the management and situation.

Slater Boy Not Guilty After Assault Case

Eleven year old Slater is cleared of the charge of assaulting Ora Olmstead eleven year old adopted daughter of Mr and Mrs Olmstead. The Oromo girl identified the boy in court as the attacker but the jury found him not guilty after witnesses challenged the identification and the defense argued alibi. The city council session condemned sidewalks and approved a bill.

The Boy Not Guilty in Rape Case

The evidence failed to bind Willie Slater over to the circuit court. Judge Powers discharged him after concluding there was no sufficient cause to believe the accused guilty. The defense also presented Slater’s testimony and supportive witness accounts regarding his actions and condition.
