People’s Church Suspended Over Morality Claims
Rev Wm Utley who came from Hartley Iowa to establish a liberal church faced dismissal after a committee found immoral conduct and lack of support. He left Mitchell Monday after a public statement admitting no future services for the People’s church. The case prompted strong indignation from the committee and local reports say Utley’s conduct disgraced himself and his supporters. James A Brown, attorney for Chamberlain, described his wife's sudden insanity, attributed to Christian Science reading, and planned to place her in an asylum in Yankton.
