Secretary McAdoo leads massive Aberdeen rally for the Liberty Loan amid parades and speeches. Gov Norbeck and local officials join the daylong event that drew large crowds and widespread applause for the farmer support in South Dakota.
Mitchell high school football opened its season with a dominant 53 to 0 victory over the Alexandria wool team. standout players Humbrand, Creighton, and Scheurenbrand led a strong rushing attack while the defense stifled the opponent.
The Plankinton Mail reports evidence from J B Sullivan about liquor on sale claims. Mayor Wells and local figures deny implicating the Mitchell administration and note a letter to the mayor concerns visitors from Aurora County.
Statewide drive for the second Liberty loan runs October 25 to 27 under the state council on defense with county and district coordination. Davison County led initial success with 207000 subscribed against a 150000 allotment, and local bankers will head township and county committees to push the four percent issue replacing the three and a half percent bonds. First bonds may be converted to four percent, delaying purchases until the new issue arrives at banks.

F. honoring Ralph Heston bound for national service, and dinners hosted by Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Keener. Murdo Society reports three weddings in early October. Thomas Strand and Barbara Block wed near Cap a with groom a farmer. Ray Boal and Rab el Strain married near Clinton as they plan to farm near Vivian. Marguereton Dougherty and Mike Youssaint wed at the Dougherty home with Father John E F Vigneron presiding.
Camberlain Society hosted a Friday gathering with Mrs Harry Kuhns guest noting a valued talk by Mrs A A Hoon of Mtchell. Eastern Star honored the Worthy Grand Matron and refreshments followed in autumn decor. Bridgettes met Thursday afternoon. Floyd Axtell and Inez Church wed Saturday at the Catholic church with friends expressing best wishes.
The Parker Society wedding on October 3 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Rehmstedt united Minnie Parker and Herbert Ahrendt with CG Sprenger officiating. Attendants included Miss Ida Welter and Mr. Charles Darrow. A course supper followed in a prettily set home.
The report highlights a pink and white decorated event with out of town guests Mr. and Mrs. Bullman of Hawarden Jr. Rev. Oberhue and wife of White Lake attended. The Tripp Society Ladies Aid held a Thursday meeting hosted by Mrs. Wenzlaff and elected officers for the year. The Initial Civic Study Club met at Mrs. Wittemeyer to prepare articles for the Red Grass box and assemble a hospital outfit for a soldier. John Craig hosted a Mothers club meeting, and Myrtle Rath celebrated a birthday with school friends at G. P. Rath home, concluding with a fried chicken dinner.
Salem society members hosted an industrial tea at Mrs Betzing home with about thirty five guests and a chicken pie lunch. Alma Gifford led an evening dinner for John A Scheier ahead of his Camp Funston departure with about forty youths. Mrs Hoyne organized two social events for nine young matrons and nine newlyweds attended Kensington afternoon.
Luke Van Hees married Miss Riane De Boer at the bride's parents home on a Wednesday afternoon in October 1917 at 3 o clock. Rev Guilema of the Christian Reformed church at Harrison officiated in the presence of immediate family. The couple plans a wedding trip to nearby points before residing on the groom's Aurora county farm.
A wedding took place at the hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy L. Neuman in Grandview Township last Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Pullmann of Stamford joined Miss Lena Inseh, niece of the Neumans, and Ivory M. Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Long, in marriage. A large reception followed and the couple plan to reside on a farm six miles south of Philip with relatives and friends in attendance.
Mrs S W Duncan and mother returned from Hamill after visiting relatives. Mrs Ellen Hart, pioneer Chamberlain settler, died in Chicago of heart failure. Her funeral was at Congregational church with Eastern Star service. son Edward Wart attended from Vermillion. Mrs J S Lockwood returned from the east with daughter Alice entering Oberlin College.
